“Anton in Show Business” by Jane Martin runs from November 5-15 in the Center Square Theatre at Southern Oregon University. In this backstage theatrical circus, Martin skewers the archetypes of players in the American theatre while affirming theatre is indelible. “The star has no scruples, the artistic director has no sense, the corporate funder has no clue, and this appears to be the status quo!” writes Robert Faires in The Austin Chronicle. “With all this ego, greed, lust, insecurity, and ineptitude, the American theatre is making Hollywood look like a Benedictine monastery.” The play received the American Theatre Critics/Steinberg New Play Award in 2001.
Performances are at 8 p.m. on Thursday-Saturday, November 5-7 and Thursday-Sunday, November 12-15, with 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday, November 14-15. Tickets are $20 regular, $17 senior, $5 students. Subscribers to three or more plays receive a discounted rate of $16 regular and $14 senior.
